Bindery · for people who write gamebooks

Leaf through your gamebook while you write it.

As if it were already printed: the page that turns, the things that stay in your pocket, the doors that open only with the right key. And if something breaks, Bindery tells you before your readers do.

The Bindery desk with Villa del Sole open: paragraphs as cards with arrows between them, the objects, the sheet you write on, the map with its pin, and at the bottom the line of checks

The desk: paragraphs as cards, the arrows, the objects, the sheet you write on and your own map. At the bottom, always, the line of faults.

While you write it

The book is already there, and you can try it

01

Leaf through it as if it were real

Press read and the book opens on two facing pages. Choose, and the page turns: on the left stays the paragraph you came from, on the right the one you have reached.

A paragraph fits on one page, as in the printed book. If it does not fit, you find out now and not at the printer’s.

02

What you find, stays

The lit candle, the key you took, the door already open: the book remembers. In the notebook, at the top, are the things you have, and the ones you are missing.

Doors that ask for something you do not have stay shut, and the program tells you what is needed: exactly as for the reader. You wrote it and know everything; here you walk it as a reader.

03

The map, while you write

Load a drawing of your own: a floor plan, a chart, a sketch. Tap the right spot, and every paragraph knows where it is.

On the desk you see it beside what you are writing, with the pin on the open paragraph. It is your tool, the writer’s: the reader never sees it.

How you work

From the first paragraph to the printed book

  1. WriteParagraphs are cards on the desk. You move them, group them by room.
  2. LinkDraw an arrow and it is a choice. While you draw it, it tells you where it leads.
  3. CheckAt the bottom of the window, always: exits into nothing, dead ends, doors that never open.
  4. Leaf throughRead the book as a reader will read it, page by page.
  5. PrintNumber, shuffle, lay out, and fix every reference to the new numbers.

And if it breaks

It tells you before your readers do

While you draw an arrow, Bindery already tells you what would happen. And at the bottom of the window, always, the line of faults: paragraphs no one reaches, keys needed where you cannot have them, rooms you cannot leave.

not that way without the key

you go in that way and never come out

The trial

Try it here, now

Not a film: the whole of Bindery, inside this page, open on Villa del Sole, a nineteen-paragraph mystery. You write, draw arrows, leaf through, print. The trial goes up to a hundred paragraphs: enough to know whether you need it.

It opens inside this page. No account, nothing to install.

Or open it in a page of its own →

Ten hand-drawn covers, resting on a wooden table

Ten hand-drawn covers

Your books sit on a shelf, face up, with their covers: they reopen with a click. The title lands on the cover by itself.

It stays yours

The book lives on your computer and never leaves it: no account, no cloud, nothing that phones home. It works without internet too.

Plates beside the text

A full-page drawing next to the paragraph it belongs to. When printing, Bindery keeps it on the same spread, adding a blank page if needed.

A book is a file

You can open it and read it with your own eyes. And if you already wrote something in Twine, it imports it.

For the printer

12 × 19, 15 × 21, and KDP with the right inner margin for the fold. Or EPUB, for reading on screen.

What it costs

[MANCA PREZZO]

A licence: the whole program, with no ceiling. Paste it, or click the button that arrives by email, and the Bindery you already tried becomes the complete one.

What the trial does not do

  • it stops at a hundred paragraphs;
  • the shelf holds one book at a time;
  • printed pages carry “prova di Bindery” faintly across them, so that a trial does not reach a printer by mistake.

With a licence all three go away. There is nothing to download again.

The letters

Rare letters, and only when something is finished: a book, a record, a new door.

One click to leave, always.
